Saving lives with a net
13/10/2009
New Zealanders who bought mosquito nets from ChildFund’s Gifts that Grow are literally saving lives.
In Angola, ChildFund distributed treated mosquito nets and provided vital community training on how to use and maintain the nets correctly as well as the importance of sleeping underneath them.
Parents were also taught to recognise the signs and symptoms of malaria in their children early on so that sick children receive vital medical treatment before it is too late.
One mother told ChildFund project staff:
“Before we do not know that mosquito nets are important to us for malaria prevention. But now with the health talks organised by health educators we know that mosquito nets protect us from the mosquito bites and kill the mosquitoes and this will help us to not get sick.”
Thank you New Zealand!
