Imagine having to walk up to 12 kilometers, just to go to school.
It's unthinkable, isn't it? But it's the reality for children living in remote communities in Zambia, where every turn along the way could bring you face-to-face with a deadly elephant or lion.
Every child needs a childhood - and an education. But right now, children are having to risk their lives to try and get it. Many simply cannot manage the exhausting and dangerous walk every day and miss out on school altogether.
Without your help, children who live in remote rural communities will continue to struggle to get an education.
Chisomo is in year five at a primary school in Luangwa, Zambia. Despite being one of the brightest students, he only manages to attend class three times a week.
"I love school very much, but it is too far, so I cannot attend every day like my friends who live nearby. Most of the time I do not eat anything when starting off and feel weak when I get to the school. Walking bare footed also make my feet ache."
Two years ago, Chisomo stopped going completely.
Please, will you make an urgent, tax-deductible donation of $100, $50 or even $25 today, to help give children like Chisomo safe access to a quality education?
Your generous donation today will directly help 1,397 children through ChildFund New Zealand’s school infrastructure program in Luangwa District.
If you donate generously before 31 March, you will be able to claim a third of your donation today, and all of your charitable donations, from the IRD at the end of the 2019 tax year.
