Education in Sri Lanka

The fact that nearly 15% of primary and secondary school students lack basic literacy and numeracy skills is the result of several issues.

Trained teachers are in short supply in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, and the teaching and learning conditions for teachers and students are not conducive to learning.

ChildFund will continue its work to provide basic school materials to children, repair school buildings, pay volunteer teachers, and set up Child Clubs where children lead projects that are important to them.

We will support children needing remedial attention for literacy and numeracy, and create IT and language centres.

We will help families to create child and education-friendly homes so that learning continues from the school into the home.
