Livelihoods in Sri Lanka

Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, has an agriculture-based economy where over 80% of community members rely on crops, livestock and fishing to provide income. But making a living isn’t easy in this community leading to the highest level of poverty in the country.

ChildFund will work with the Vavunathivu Development Organisation to improve irrigation, produce livestock food and seeds, and better understand agricultural development and diversification from rice paddies. Farmers will be trained in financial management and how to add value to what they produce, and given access to finance and new markets to sell their goods.
