Sponsor Services team member Alina explains why sponsors support through ChildFund is about much more than financial support.Receiving cards and letters means so much to sponsored children
By Alina Kurien, Sponsor Services
Having worked at ChildFund now for seven years, I can justifiably feel proud for the work that we all do to give as many children as we possibly can, in developing countries, unimagined opportunities.
The task of seeking potential new sponsors to help more children in need is always a challenging one. However the fact that we remitted 15 million dollars overseas from ever-caring generous Kiwis despite the current economic situation shows that we are all committed and passionate about our work.
What I have observed through my interactions with sponsors is how they humbly downplay the importance of their contribution.
It’s interesting to know that by writing letters, sponsors also share an emotional connection with their sponsored child and family.
For most sponsored children, receiving a letter from their sponsors is the only contact they have with the outside world. These letters are treasured by all members in the child’s family. Photos of sponsors find a pride of place in their homes to serve as a constant reminder of their guardian angel.
Thus sponsors provide not just the much needed financial support to the children but also encouragement to help them seek a life filled with hope for the future.
Personally it feels wonderful to receive compliments from sponsors, thanking me for helping them with their enquiries or on my lovely voice over the phone (I’m still getting used to believing that even after all these years).
The lovely colleagues and the diverse cultures we all represent add to the charm of working at ChildFund.
This is a wonderful platform to thank all our sponsors and donors (past and present) and colleagues in being part of this journey to make this world a land of equal opportunities for all children.
