Dinh is a father of 6 living in Cao Bang, a province of Vietnam. He tells us about his life and how ChildFund New Zealand has helped him and his children:

"We have a hard life as a big family. We lack land and capital for agriculture and funds for my children’s study. My normal day is busy with fulltime work. Out of working hours, I try to spend time checking the rice field, collecting food for pigs and cows, and collecting wood for fire. During crop seasons, I collect rice, corn and other crops in my family’s field.

I started to participate in a ChildFund project in June. Though I am quite busy I decided to work for the project as I found it is good for our villagers by improving the environment to bring good health to us and help us to improve life.

What impressed me most was the model of building latrines, led by the community. The great thing was that people started to stop open defecation which has been done for thousands of years and they even built latrines. I found other people commented that the project addressed what they need and it should continue to improve the environment and people’s health.

I will continue to participate in the project no matter how busy I am. I expect to see changes to our community from this ChildFund project. I want people to have good health thanks to a clean environment and earn a high income so our next generation will have good education and good health."

This project is supported by the New Zealand Aid Programme. For more information about ChildFund's work in Vietnam, please visit the Vietnam country page.
