The Office of the Privacy Commissioner provides further details of the Privacy Act and how it protects personal information in New Zealand.

ChildFund New Zealand operates the websites:,,,,, and their mobile versions. As part of our operations we may gather certain types of information about the users of our sites:

As of January 2015 ChildFund is taking part in a list swapping programme whereby reputable charities exchange the details of their supporters with one another through an independent third party.  This list swapping programme allows ChildFund New Zealand to tell supporters of other charities about our work.

ChildFund New Zealand will share the contact details of anyone who makes a donation to ChildFund (a Supporter) with other reputable charities (via an independent third party) for the purposes of the list swapping programme (unless a Supporter opts out of the list swapping programme).  When the other charities receive a Supporter’s contact details, they will contact the Supporter for marketing purposes and may store the Supporter’s contact details on their database.

ChildFund New Zealand will not be responsible for the secure storage of a Supporter’s contact details by the independent third party or the other charitable organisations.

If you are a Supporter of ChildFund and consent to taking part in the list swapping programme (i.e. you do not opt out), you agree to allow ChildFund New Zealand to disclose your contact details to an independent third party, who will pass them on to other charities for marketing purposes as set out above.

A Supporter may opt out of the list swapping programme at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer at ChildFund on 0800 808 822 or by email at As soon as reasonably practicable, ChildFund New Zealand will notify the independent third party of your decision to opt out.

At ChildFund New Zealand we put children first, so naturally are strongly committed to the protection of children. That is why the child photos and information we provide via email and the web must not be redistributed. While we recognise that supporters may wish to share photos or stories of their sponsored children, a child’s information and photos are confidential. Therefore, because of the privacy and security risks, we must insist that ChildFund supporters do not share photos or stories of their sponsored children on websites or intranets.

If you are not the intended recipient, the photos and information should be destroyed and must not be used, disclosed, copied or commercialised.

Thank you for your understanding in this vital matter of protecting children's safety and well-being.
