DikshanaI am a girl born on 14 January 2014 and I live in Sri Lanka
Dikshana is a 4 year old little girl. She attends the village pre- school. She lives with her parents in a remote village in Sri Lanka. She has 2 sisters in the family. She loves to play with ball and sing songs. She is a healthy child. She lives in a house made with bricks, cement and tiles. They draw water from a common well and have their own sanitary facilities. Her father works as a casual laborer in the area and mother is a home maker. The income they earn is insufficient to meet the requirements of the family. There are days that they are left without any work. Their annual income does not exceed US$ 600. Her parents wish to give good education to Dikshana, to give her a bright future. The help of a kind and generous sponsor will indeed be a blessing and a godsend to this family. Through the sponsorship support she will be able have a good start in education, continue it successfully and be a confident child in the years to come.

WHAT OTHER KIWI SPONSORS ARE SAYING
Sponsoring the girls has been a totally rewarding experience so far, and now that we’ve all met, I know our relationship will be at a whole new level. If I am talking with others about sponsoring a child, my message is simple: do it.

I think it’s easy to be cynical; you read stories about how much money doesn’t make it where it’s really needed, or you wonder how much help you, as just one person, can really be. Visiting Le has really cemented for us that child sponsorship does work. We’re proud that we’re helping Le’s community to help themselves, and we’re proud that we’ve shown our children the importance of caring about and helping others.

How your sponsorship helps
For just $48 a month, your Child Sponsorship will not only help one child, but a whole community break free from poverty.
ChildFund works directly with community leaders, the parents and families of sponsored children. We believe they understand their own children’s needs best - directing your help to where it’s needed most and will give the greatest benefit.

Proper nutrition is the key to a good start for every child. From special high energy porridge at school, to teaching parents how to grow and cook vegetables. Families may receive seeds and tools, or an animal to raise for nutritious foods like milk and eggs.
Without clean water and proper sanitation, children will always be at risk. Wells, bores, pipes and hand-pumps are vital in any community. And then there are hygienic pit toilets and training in hygiene practices for good health.
Education means opportunity, and children who miss out are much more likely to remain trapped in poverty. By sponsoring a child you can provide children with books, pencils, textbooks, school blackboards and desks, and even training for teachers.
Simple illnesses, like diarrhoea, can put a child’s life at risk. A combination of health checks, local nurses, immunisation programmes and teaching families the warning signs of disease means children are safer.
Children are a key part of a community, and development that makes a community strong helps make its children strong too. Things like leadership, community buildings, roads to market, training in new skills to earn more money and budgeting are all important.
See the difference you are making
ChildFund works toward one simple outcome: leaving families in a situation where they are independent and self-reliant.
Implementing a plan like this relies on strong relationships with families and communities. So ChildFund New Zealand has formed special relationships with just five main ‘partner’ countries. You can sponsor a child in any of these five countries. They are Kenya, Zambia, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

Life is a daily struggle for many children living in extreme poverty. You can ease the struggles of one child through sponsorship.
But not just one child. By sponsoring you'll help some of the poorest children in the world. You will help give children access to clean water, good nutrition, an education and more.
Your regular gift will help your sponsored child and family grow strong and resilient.
Your contribution as a child sponsor can change the lives of entire communities. Sponsorship enables ChildFund to partner with communities to help families break free from poverty.
ChildFund works with children at every stage of their lives from pre-birth to young adult. Babies and under-fives need quality nutrition and healthcare to ensure they develop well mentally and physically. Children aged 5 to 14 years need a quality education and the opportunity to learn and play. Youth need life skills, confidence and have opportunities to become happy and productive citizens.
Every parent wants a better life for their children. With your support ChildFund helps parents, teachers and communities build safe environments for children to grow and learn.
Sponsorship isn’t a handout, it’s a hand up. ChildFund works to build strong sustainable communities so that in time they no longer need our help. Sponsorship provides for the essential needs of children and along with our other programmes is part of a wider effort to help communities lift themselves out of poverty.
