Leinani* should have been safe at home.
On a recent visit to Leinani's house, local ChildFund staff members observed her grandmother disciplining her with a heavy stick.
You're worthless! And so disrespectful!" Leinani's grandmother shouted, as the stick came down heavily onto the young girl's backside. Leinani yelled back, making her grandmother even more angry.
"When her grandmother picked up a big stone, I was so scared," explained Selima, ChildFund Kiribati staff member. "Maybe she noticed us watching but, thankfully, she dropped the stone and walked away."
With your help, we will reach the most vulnerable families in Kiribati.
* Leinani's name and photo have been changed for her protection.
The stress of COVID-19 means violence will rise in the Pacific.
COVID-19 not only threatens people's health, but it also drastically increases violence to vulnerable children and women around the world.
It is estimated that 3 out of 4 children in the Pacific already experience a high rate of violence and abuse in their homes. With the added economic stresses of COVID-19, children are even more at risk.
Will you help us reach vulnerable children who are threatened by violence and abuse in the Pacific?
Communities in the Pacific are dealing with the economic stresses of COVID-19, and so, household violence is on the rise. Donate today to help protect children from violence at home.
With your support, ChildFund will:
